Money Matters

We use 'Stripe' to process payments. It is a multi-billion dollar business that has been operating well over 10 years. Stripe has a low cost service for charities like us called donorbox. We do not have access to any donor's card details.

For what it is worth, one of the backers who got Stripe off the ground was Elon Musk.

Check us out with the ACNC. The Australian Charities and Not-for-Profits Commission is the government regulator. You can search for us by name or by our ABN 36 558 788 040.

Everyone at Rea Thusa Australia are volunteers. When Pam and Nigel go to Lesotho they pay their own fares and accommodation. There are some unavoidable admin costs such as fees paid to the ANZ and Stripe and website hosting costs paid to Crazy Domains but these are less than 10% of donations.

About our projects

Not any more! When we started, we sent a container of donated goods including school furniture and books. It cost a fortune because shipments have to imported into South Africa before then being exported by road to Lesotho (the country is landlocked). So now we source as much as we can locally. If needed we buy things over the border in Bloemfontain.

We, sadly, also have to wary of theft and 'grease payments'

.

Most recently we paid for a water bore after existing bores ran dry. We are trying to minimise the time children spend walking to and from water supplies (fetching water can run into hours a day). Few schools can afford basics like stationery and books so we give them priority. When we can raise enough funds we also try to help destitute orphans with food and clothing.
