About Us

Rea Thusa means 'we help' in Sesotho, the language of the Basotho People.

Rea Thusa Australia is a Public Benevolent Institution under Australian tax and charities laws.

The charity was founded by Pamela and Nigel Munro-Smith. Our Country Director in Lesotho is Thabang Phohlo. Pamela and Thabang met in 2014 when Pam travelled to Lesotho with a small team from the Australian Council for Educational Research to undertake a World Bank funded project.

We are based in Mount Eliza, Victoria, Australia and we help the most vulnerable children in Lesotho to lead healthy and productive lives.

We can do even more with your help

Our logo is derived from the iconic straw hats of the Basotho people (mokorotio). The hats are inspired by Mount Qiloane

Our Guiding Principles

Rea Thusa Australia is a small, flexible organisation focusing its efforts to genuinely transform the lives of vulnerable children. There is much more to do, so we are keen to grow; but not so fast that we end up chewing up money on administration or marketing.

Our guiding principles include:

  • Every cent donated is used to help vulnerable children in Lesotho, to break the cycle of poverty
  • All overheads are paid for by the management team, including administration, fees, government charges, travel and shipping
  • We try to purchase everything we need from businesses in Lesotho (but some things have to be sourced from South Africa)
  • We us local builders employing local workers in the construction of classrooms

The Management Team.

Everyone here at Rea Thusa Australia are volunteers
